Pacific Climate Change Science. Small island developing countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change. During this century, these countries will face increasing threats to sustainable development from the impacts of climate change. Sectors which are likely to be most affected include human health, infrastructure, coastal resources, disaster management, fresh water availability, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, marine ecosystems and tourism. Through the Pacific Climate Change Science Program (PCCSP) and Pacific- Australia Climate Change Science Adaptation Planning (PACCSAP) program, the Australian Government provided tools and knowledge to 1. Learn more about the Australian Climate Change Science Program, a collaboration between the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO and the Australian Government. It is the longest running climate change science program in Australia. Climate change science provides the information we need to understand and plan for climate change impacts – increasing community resilience and reducing the cost to society. Driving Australia. The ACCSP also supports activities under the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre, the Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science and the Australian Academy of Science. The ACCSP delivers world- class climate science to underpin Australia's response to climate change. It is the Australian Government's largest and longest- standing climate change science programme, having been running continuously since 1. Our science focuses on the southern hemisphere because most other climate change science is generated in the northern hemisphere and does not provide all the information needed for Australian decision making. Southern hemisphere science is also crucial to better understand the global climate system, particularly in terms of ocean processes. Specific areas of research include: understanding the Southern Ocean and its influence on global climateincreasing our knowledge of the contribution to, and response of, Australia's unique biosphere to climate changeunderstanding processes in the atmosphere, such as cloud properties and aerosol behaviour, that contribute to current and likely future climateincorporating climate knowledge into computer models that represent the climate system and that can be verified and used for the projection of future climate change and its impactsregional assessments of the impacts of (and development of strategies to address) climate change, global change and climatic variability. Over the 2. 5 years of the ACCSP we have made significant progress in our understanding of the climate system, including: understanding the rate of global sea level rise and the regional variation around Australia's coast, and pioneering studies of sea level extremeslearning more about Southern Ocean physics and chemistry, and identifying links to climate change for the Australian region and the globedeveloping new approaches to improve understanding of important climate feedback processesincreased understanding of the causes of decadal climate variabilityimproving climate projections through the development of more sophisticated climate modelsdeveloping new methods to develop and communicate regional projections of future climate change. Through the ACCSP we have been active contributors to international climate change research and assessment activities, including those associated with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In its final year the ACCSP continues to improve our understanding of our changing climate so that government, industry and the community have the information they need to prepare for the future. During 2. 01. 6, all ACCSP research will be completed and new earth systems and climate change research will be delivered for Australia through the new Earth Systems and Climate Change Hub of the Australian Government's National Environmental Science Programme .

My Review of Tracy Anderson’s Metamorphosis. As a GOOP subscriber I was really intrigued by GP's (Gwyneth Paltrow) trainer Tracy Anderson's new program for the public called Metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is a 9. DVD, and Tracy's recommended eating plan. The body types include Omnicentric for those who gain weight all over; Hipcentric for those with a small waist, big hips and big thighs; Abcentric if you gain weight in the midsection or have a thick waist or Glutecentric for those of us with as Tracy say's a droopy, shapeless behind. I was torn about which one to order. Tracy Anderson Program ReviewsSee Instagram photos and videos from Tracy Anderson (@tracyandersonmethod). WOMEN MEN YOUTH METAMORPHOSIS. I'm built a bit like GP (although shorter) so I ordered the Glutecentric series. Truth be told I didn't want to part with my money. I thought I would try a few of Tracy's You- tube freebies first before ordering the set for $8. Her Sitting Arms segment proved to be very challenging as well as her other lower body moves. Already my butt was lifting. I've been a long- time T- Tapper. Sometimes I like the feel of a more strenuous workout. What can I say I heart endorphins. I find the right amount of cardio helps to combat depression and improves my digestion. Food just sits in my gut if I don't move and burn it off. I have to tell you I have worked out my entire life. THIS IS THE TOUGHEST WORKOUT I HAVE EVER DONE. The Cardio Dance is actually fun but you need the right shoes. This is a seriously HIGH impact workout. My feet were absolutely killing me! So much so that I had to use a mini- trampoline to do some of the moves. A little angel at Sports Authority told me that it's better to buy a cheap pair of Asics with an arch support than the most expensive pair of Nike or New Balance shoes. I have to say I'm an arch- support Asics Believer now. I've worn a few different styles of New Balance and Nike Shox and my Sportmart dude was right on. I lost about half an inch from my waist at least during the beginning when I had the energy to do the program 5- 6 days a week. Yes, Tracy recommends doing her routine 6 days a week which includes one half hour of dance cardio which is actually more like plyometrics and a half hour of her toning program. I typically workout 6 days a week but I alternate the intensity. I may hit it hard 3- 4 days a week and supplement with gentler workouts. Even professional athletes and body builders don't do to their max 6 days a week for months and years on end. I will say my butt never looked better. I also enjoyed being able to eat more and maintain my size. Tracy truly is an architect when it comes to designing exercises that will change your body. The only problem is this program is just too hard and boring. Also there are no warm- ups or cool downs. You pretty much go straight into it. True I am 4. 0 and I work two pretty active jobs, see clients and whatnot. Sometimes doing cardio will actually give me energy and sometimes not . After a few months of doing this program I could only give Tracy 3- 4 workouts a week and of course my progress slowed. An exercise program could certainly make you look sexier but if you are hobbling around with an aching back then that's no longer sexy. I was starting to NOT look forward to the workouts. I wanted to break down and cry every time I was about to throw in a DVD. I usually love to workout so this was a new feeling for me! While I appreciate the fact that the toning routines change every 1. In the end, this workout just became too punishing. I like cross training. I do believe there needs to be a certain amount of enthusiasm in order to get results. Ever notice when a workout stops being fun the results stop too? I wouldn't doubt that if you followed this program to a . I admit I did not follow Tracy's diet plan as I felt it was too low in calories for me. I didn't try Metamorphosis to lose weight. I just can't leave the house eating only fruit for breakfast. I do think the foods she recommends are healthy, there's just not enough of them for most of us who need proper fuel. This diet may be fine for a cleanse but not for a busy person who is working out at this intensity. My new program will change daily and it will be about . Some T- Tapp, walks along the Chicago River, dancing, Kickboxing, hot yoga and yes Tracy's DVD will be apart of the rotation. Visiting Electives Program for Students. Man welding a metal structure in a newly constructed house in Bengaluru, India. Arc welding is a type of welding that uses a welding power supply to create an electric arc between an electrode and the base material to melt the metals at the welding point. They can use either direct (DC) or alternating (AC) current, and consumable or non- consumable electrodes. The welding region is usually protected by some type of shielding gas, vapor, or slag. Arc welding processes may be manual, semi- automatic, or fully automated. First developed in the late part of the 1. Second World War. Depending upon the process, the electrode is either consumable, in the. Today it remains an important process for the fabrication of steel structures and vehicles. Power supplies. Engine driven welder capable of AC/DC welding. The most common classification is constant current power supplies and constant voltage power supplies. In arc welding, the voltage is directly related to the length of the arc, and the current is related to the amount of heat input. Constant current power supplies are most often used for manual welding processes such as gas tungsten arc welding and shielded metal arc welding, because they maintain a relatively constant current even as the voltage varies. This is important because in manual welding, it can be difficult to hold the electrode perfectly steady, and as a result, the arc length and thus voltage tend to fluctuate. Constant voltage power supplies hold the voltage constant and vary the current, and as a result, are most often used for automated welding processes such as gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, and submerged arc welding. In these processes, arc length is kept constant, since any fluctuation in the distance between the wire and the base material is quickly rectified by a large change in current. For example, if the wire and the base material get too close, the current will rapidly increase, which in turn causes the heat to increase and the tip of the wire to melt, returning it to its original separation distance. Consumable electrode processes such as shielded metal arc welding and gas metal arc welding generally use direct current, but the electrode can be charged either positively or negatively. In welding, the positively charged anode will have a greater heat concentration (around 6. If the electrode is positively charged, it will melt more quickly, increasing weld penetration and welding speed. Alternatively, a negatively charged electrode results in more shallow welds. With direct current however, because the electrode only creates the arc and does not provide filler material, a positively charged electrode causes shallow welds, while a negatively charged electrode makes deeper welds. One disadvantage of AC, the fact that the arc must be re- ignited after every zero crossing, has been addressed with the invention of special power units that produce a square wave pattern instead of the normal sine wave, eliminating low- voltage time after the zero crossings and minimizing the effects of the problem. For example, an 8. A welder with a 6. Commercial- or professional- grade welders typically have a 1. Consumable electrode methods. Shielded metal arc welding. One of the most common types of arc welding is shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), which is also known as manual metal arc welding (MMAW) or stick welding. An electric current is used to strike an arc between the base material and a consumable electrode rod or stick. The electrode rod is made of a material that is compatible with the base material being welded and is covered with a flux that gives off vapors that serve as a shielding gas and provide a layer of slag, both of which protect the weld area from atmospheric contamination. The electrode core itself acts as filler material, making a separate filler unnecessary. The process is very versatile, requiring little operator training and inexpensive equipment. However, weld times are rather slow, since the consumable electrodes must be frequently replaced and because slag, the residue from the flux, must be chipped away after welding. The versatility of the method makes it popular in a number of applications including repair work and construction. Constant voltage, direct current power source is most commonly used with GMAW, but constant current alternating current are used as well. With continuously fed filler electrodes, GMAW offers relatively high welding speeds, however the more complicated equipment reduces convenience and versatility in comparison to the SMAW process. Originally developed for welding aluminium and other non- ferrous materials in the 1. GMAW was soon economically applied to steels. Today, GMAW is commonly used in industries such as the automobile industry for its quality, versatility and speed. Because of the need to maintain a stable shroud of shielding gas around the weld site, it can be problematic to use the GMAW process in areas of high air movement such as outdoors. FCAW wire is actually a fine metal tube filled with powdered flux materials. An externally supplied shielding gas is sometimes used, but often the flux itself is relied upon to generate the necessary protection from the atmosphere. The process is widely used in construction because of its high welding speed and portability. Submerged arc welding (SAW) is a high- productivity welding process in which the arc is struck beneath a covering layer of granular flux. This increases arc quality, since contaminants in the atmosphere are blocked by the flux. The slag that forms on the weld generally comes off by itself and, combined with the use of a continuous wire feed, the weld deposition rate is high. Working conditions are much improved over other arc welding processes since the flux hides the arc and no smoke is produced. The process is commonly used in industry, especially for large products. SAW is only possible in the 1. F (flat fillet), 2. F (horizontal fillet), and 1. G (flat groove) positions. Non- consumable electrode methods. Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), or tungsten/inert- gas (TIG) welding, is a manual welding process that uses a non- consumable electrode made of tungsten, an inert or semi- inert gas mixture, and a separate filler material. Especially useful for welding thin materials, this method is characterized by a stable arc and high quality welds, but it requires significant operator skill and can only be accomplished at relatively low speeds. It can be used on nearly all weldable metals, though it is most often applied to stainless steel and light metals. It is often used when quality welds are extremely important, such as in bicycle, aircraft and naval applications. The arc is more concentrated than the GTAW arc, making transverse control more critical and thus generally restricting the technique to a mechanized process. Because of its stable current, the method can be used on a wider range of material thicknesses than can the GTAW process and is much faster. It can be applied to all of the same materials as GTAW except magnesium; automated welding of stainless steel is one important application of the process. A variation of the process is plasma cutting, an efficient steel cutting process. If the electrodes used for welding contain traces of moisture, the water decomposes in the heat of the arc and the liberated hydrogen enters the lattice of the material, causing its brittleness. Stick electrodes for such materials, with special low- hydrogen coating, are delivered in sealed moisture- proof packaging. New electrodes can be used straight from the can, but when moisture absorption may be suspected, they have to be dried by baking (usually at 4. Flux used has to be kept dry as well. When subjected to temperatures around 7. Such sensitized steel undergoes corrosion in the areas near the welds where the temperature- time was favorable for forming the carbide. This kind of corrosion is often termed weld decay. Knifeline attack (KLA) is another kind of corrosion affecting welds, impacting steels stabilized by niobium. Niobium and niobium carbide dissolves in steel at very high temperatures. At some cooling regimes, niobium carbide does not precipitate, and the steel then behaves like unstabilized steel, forming chromium carbide instead. This affects only a thin zone several millimeters wide in the very vicinity of the weld, making it difficult to spot and increasing the corrosion speed. Structures made of such steels have to be heated in a whole to about 1,0. The cooling rate after this treatment is not important. There are also issues of galvanic corrosion if the electrode composition is sufficiently dissimilar to the materials welded, or the materials are dissimilar themselves. Even between different grades of nickel- based stainless steels, corrosion of welded joints can be severe, despite that they rarely undergo galvanic corrosion when mechanically joined. To prevent them, welders wear protective clothing in the form of heavy leathergloves and protective long sleeve jackets to avoid exposure to extreme heat, flames, and sparks. The use of compressed gases and flames in many welding processes also pose an explosion and fire risk; some common precautions include limiting the amount of oxygen in the air and keeping combustible materials away from the workplace. Welding goggles and helmets with dark face plates. In recent years, new helmet models have been produced featuring a face plate which automatically self- darkens electronically. These curtains, made of a polyvinyl chloride plastic film, shield nearby workers from exposure to the UV light from the electric arc. Processes like flux- cored arc welding and shielded metal arc welding produce smoke containing particles of various types of oxides. The size of the particles in question tends to influence the toxicity of the fumes, with smaller particles presenting a greater danger. Sony AWS- G5. 00. HD Anycast Station .
